About Gary Hallquist

Gary has been a pastor in large churches since 1993 and has served in a number of different capacities. As a result of life experiences in ministry, he has often had the opportunity of meeting with people at the point of their deepest need. “I have learned in my own life experiences, and through helping others, that the Bible is a trustworthy guide, that Christ is a sufficient Savior, and that the Lord is an ever-present help to all who call on him.”

Gary has been married to his high school sweetheart since 1975. They have three grown children and nine grandchildren—seven who live in Auburn. He is a native of Louisiana. He grew up in a musical family and pursued a music career for much of his life. He has five college degrees and has had five different careers. “My life has been a great adventure in the pursuit of God. I have been laid off twice and fired once. I lost almost everything in Hurricane Katrina when we lived in New Orleans. I’ve learned that the scars have made me a better counselor and I’ve come to appreciate the troubles we have walked through, as they have deepened my compassion for people.”

Gary loves teaching, playing jazz, composing music, playing golf, and spending time with family.
